Gain 31 Pounds Before Football Training Camp - Part 1

As a diehard Nole football fan and alum of the Florida State University, it pains me to say that it is time for our great leader, Bobby Bowden to call it quits. No longer do the Noles place fear into their opponents heart when they walk onto the field of Doak Campbell Stadium. No longer are sports casters raving about the quality of Nole players who step on the field. It has gotten so bad that very rarely are the Noles seen on prime time stations. Instead they are playing on ESPNU or ESPN classic stations. What has happened to the good quality players that once made up the Seminole football team?

Give them chances to be perfect: I'm going to use a basketball analogy. In basketball players have a chance to hit foul shots to avoid running. They have a chance to run a play to perfection to get some reward. It's a challenge they need to overcome. Football is no different. Our coaches would have us run 10 plays in a row to perfection. No mess ups on plays or responsibilities or anything. We had to run 10 perfect plays in a row to get our reward. We fought hard and failed a lot but we always asked for other chances and to prove ourselves.

One of the common kinds is soccer. In the United Kingdom, people call it association football but countries such as USA and Australia prefer to call soccer. This game is played by two teams using a spherical ball. Each team is composed of 11 players including the goalkeeper who is allowed to touch the ball while others are not. The goal of each team is to kick the ball towards their post and kick it to enter the goal. By that, the team gets one point and when time expires the team football players with the highest score wins. This sport is considered the most popular sport in the world. People always look forward to some international events such as the World Cup which is held every four years.

Clean & Jerk - A few years back Olympic Lift-only training programs were all the rage. Then, they fell out of favor and on came the anti-Olympic lifting brigade. As usual, and over-reaction short term and an under-reaction long term.

The great news about football is that there are a ton of scholarships available. Football offers more scholarships than any other collegiate sport. In fact, about 85 scholarships are available per team at the Division I level. The bad news about recruiting for football is that there is a massive amount of competition for the available scholarships. There are thousands of high school football players all across the country.

With a sandbag, you are literally wrestling the damn bag by rep 5. It's less about form and more about guts. This movement builds mental toughness as much as physical. It's a great finisher - an exercise used at the end of a football training session to really put the finishing touches on and ensure that you've pushed to the limit. Remember, if you leave something on the table in training, you'll do the same in a game (or in life).

There's not much sense putting every player through the same cookie-cutter agility and foot-speed training program. Remember, the only football exercises you should add to your training program are those with a high return on your efforts. Jump Rope and Clean & Jerks are two of the best in this regard.
